U.S. Students behind in Science and Math
In a study of eighth grade students the U.S. remains behind Pacific Rim nations (e.g., Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan) and European nations (e.g., Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands.) in science and math. Just 9% of U.S. students were in the 90th percentile in math compared to nearly half of those in Singapore. There was no significant gain since a similar study was done in 1995. Leading U.S. educators said the results show a lack of training of teachers in math and science.
